It also amazes me how many people don't keep their anti-virus programs updated. It's really just a matter of educating yourself. A little surfing on the web will give you plenty of info on how to protect yourself.

(good advice, Gen13)

Most scanners will update or give you an update warning, all you have to do is push yes on the popup update window.
I thought that would of been implied DL
You guys are right just go on some of the AV sites most of them have lots of information on how to protect yourself, those of you who use ICQ, IRC, or Outlook, I strongly suggest you educate yourself, it will take a while but its a lot shorter then trying to fix or find out how you got what. Also remember that sometimes computers just do weird things, sometimes they have error pop up messages, or even reboot on its own, it doesn't mean you are infected.

I was wondering when someone was going to start blaming Anti-Virus companies...

JPEG's for the most part are safe, EXCEPT that a lot of people open them with Internet Explorer, therefore, since IE can execute code, there's a chance JPEG's could become virus. Though, I agree there's a low chance of that right now and there's no reason to hype it up.

Also, other email programs can and do get viruses. Just had several customers get infected (and one not because she had Norton current & updated) through GroupWise. Mac's get viruses, too, though not nearly as many.

Anyway, like everyone has said, keep your anti-virus virus definitions updated and use common sense with emails.
